The Watchmaking Artistry of Frédérique Constant
Frédérique Constant aims to combine precise mechanics and a classic design concept with a fair price-performance ratio. The manufacturer represents a different perspective on Swiss watchmaking—one that combines quality and craftsmanship with openness and accessibility. It may not have centuries of history, but it does have a clear vision: to make luxury watches accessible to more people without compromising on technology or appearance.
Frédérique Constant watches are therefore aimed at a wider audience than many traditional manufacturers. The collections are characterized by their own movements, open dial designs, moon phase displays, and a harmonious, elegant appearance. Whether Slimline, Highlife, or Classics models, Frédérique Constant demonstrates that value and functionality can be achieved without obstacles such as price or availability. In doing so, the brand remains true to its clear mission statement: reliable, high-quality watchmaking—deliberately without elitism, but with the necessary craftsmanship.
"We believe that luxury does not have to be elitist."
Peter Stas, co-founder of Frédérique Constant
The History of Frédérique Constant
Founded in Geneva in 1988 by husband and wife Aletta and Peter Stas, Frédérique Constant was born out of a desire to produce classic Swiss watches with fine mechanics. Even then, the focus was on offering timepieces at prices that would be accessible to a wider audience. While many watch brands drew their identity from tradition and prestige, Frédérique Constant deliberately took a more pragmatic approach, focusing on thoughtful design, reliable technology, and a modern understanding of luxury. In 2004, the company unveiled its first in-house movement. This was a historic step that underlined the company's ambition to do more than just assemble watches. In the years that followed, more than 30 calibres were developed in-house, including those with complications such as moon phase, flyback chronograph, tourbillon, and perpetual calendar. Frédérique Constant thus proved that manufacturing expertise and fair pricing do not have to be mutually exclusive. To this day, the label thrives on a balance between classic style, technical independence, and affordability—driven by the conviction that true luxury lies in substance, not status.
Today, Frédérique Constant belongs to the Citizen Group, but continues to operate independently from its Geneva-based manufacture. The manufacturer has established itself internationally as a serious producer of mechanical timepieces with its own standards and a growing fan base. A particular focus is on mechanical timepieces—especially Frédérique Constant watches with automatic movements, which form the heart of many collections and significantly shape the character of the brand. Whether with the simple Slimline, the sporty and elegant Highlife, or the technically ambitious Manufacture collection, Frédérique Constant remains true to its credo: mechanical quality from its own hands, stylishly designed, fairly priced. Those who wear a Frédérique Constant watch choose a timepiece with attitude.
