The Watchmaking Artistry of L'Epée 1839
L'Epée 1839 presents the highest level of craftsmanship and is the only manufacturer in Switzerland that designs and produces luxury timepieces from A to Z in its own Maison. In particular, the kinetic works of art that combine form and function are its trademark and take the viewer on a fascinating journey through time, culture, and technology.
The History of L'Epée 1839
Founded in 1839 by Auguste L’Epée, the company originally focused on the manufacture of watch components such as escapements. Even then, the brand was known for its completely handmade pieces. In the 20th century, L'Epée 1839 owed its reputation largely to its outstanding carriage clocks. At that time, L'Epée 1839 was considered by many to be the clock of the powerful and influential, as the company supplied business leaders, government offices, and royal courts, among others.
Throughout its history, the manufacturer has always been on the lookout for innovative creations, receiving numerous awards and breaking all the industry's boundaries with its records and patents. For example, it presented the world's largest pendulum clock and participated in an aviation project of enormous proportions: L'Epée 1839 equipped the first Concorde aircraft with wall clocks. To this day, they are the only clocks ever to have been installed in a supersonic civil aviation aircraft.
What Makes L'Epée 1839 Stand Out?
"The manufactory brings together many different professions and master craftsmen under one roof. Talented designers, engineers, mechanics, and watchmakers strive together for perfection and want to surprise people with the beautiful things in life, just as L'Epée 1839 has always wanted to do."
Arnaud Nicolas, CEO
Today, L'Epée 1839 is a world leader in the manufacture of high-end table clocks that combine mechanical excellence with artistic design. Since the brand's revival in 2008, the manufactory has specialized in creating exceptional pieces that honour the traditional values of watchmaking while surprising with innovative concepts. Each clock is designed, developed, and assembled in the in-house workshop in Delémont, with the utmost care, precision, and collaboration between the creative minds behind them.
L'Epée 1839 attaches great importance to integrating technically sophisticated complications into its elaborate designs. The result is works of art that not only tell the time but also tell stories and evoke emotions in the viewer. Many series, such as the Time Fast or the Requiem collection, offer interactive elements that invite you to experience the clockwork in a playful way. Whether through animated parts, special winding mechanisms, or unusual materials, L'Epée 1839 clocks create a direct connection between technology, art, and the user.
