The duration of an hour should be a period of play. It should be a celebration for that one specific hour in life and so you have something on your watch, something exciting, thrilling and engaging to represent it.

The Watchmaking Artistry of URWERK
Every hour can be something very special. These individual moments in life should be celebrated, and the watch should have something on it that symbolizes them: something exciting, thrilling and captivating. This is exactly what URWERK wants to convey.
The History of URWERK
URWERK was founded in 1997 by Felix Baumgartner, a trained watchmaker, and Martin Frei, an artist and designer with a clear goal: to combine the design and manufacture of haute horlogerie timepieces with tradition and futuristic approaches. URWERK has its origins in the city of UR in Mesopotamia, far away from Switzerland. It was in UR that the first timekeeping methods were developed, which have shaped our perception of time. WERK stands for working, creating, developing, shaping, forging and triggering emotions. The two founders share the vision of representing time in an unconventional way, combining maximum precision with artistic freedom.
What Makes URWERK Stand Out?
Since its foundation, URWERK has achieved numerous important goals and turning points. In 1997, the watch company presented its first models, the UR-101 and UR-102, which caused a sensation with their innovative time display system. This was followed in 2003 by the launch of the UR-103, which offered a revolutionary interpretation of the conventional dial with rotating satellite hours. Another highlight came in 2011 with the launch of the UR-1001 Time Device, a watch that measures time spans from one second to 1,000 years.
“A watch is a round, flat object with two hands. It is so much a part of our everyday lives that we even use it as a pictogram. Finally, in 1997, the URWERK brand was born - with its very own creations ...”
Martin Frei, head designer and co-founder of URWERK
