With a century of history marked by precision and passion, Mido has become a global icon of Swiss mechanical watches. Their timepieces are available in more than 70 countries through 2,700 retailers—a testament to their unique and internationally recognized heritage. As a proud member of the Swatch Group, a cornerstone of the watch industry, Mido continues to write the story of modern watchmaking.
The name Mido—derived from “yo mido” meaning “I measure” in Spanish—expresses a deep attachment to the measurement of time. Sustained by its founder’s visionary strength, the brand continues to combine watchmaking expertise, innovation, functionality and aesthetics.
Cutting-edge technology, movements renowned for their precision, materials of superior quality, and original yet timeless designs are the pillars of Mido’s unique know-how. The brand draws on its expertise to proudly showcase mechanical and aesthetic features that meet the highest standards of Swiss watchmaking and to make high-end quality affordable. Mido’s watches are fitted with the latest-generation automatic movements, with impressive power reserves and excellent resistance to magnetism. All chronometer models house calibres subjected to rigorous testing by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute) and are therefore COSC-certified. Since value lies in the smallest details, Mido selects the best materials and applies high-end finishes and decorations to its dials and calibres. This technological performance is joined by original yet timeless designs with sleek lines. Beyond fashion and passing trends, Mido watches stand out for their reliability, resistance and durability.
The History of Mido
Mido was founded in 1918 by watchmaker Georges Schaeren in Biel, Switzerland, at a time of change and technical innovation. The brand quickly made a name for itself with elegant, functional watches that reflected the spirit of the era. In the 1930s, Mido presented the Multifort model, one of the first automatic wristwatches that was shock-resistant, anti-magnetic, and water-resistant—a minor revolution at the time. The 1950s and 60s were all about design, with collections inspired by modern architecture and a clear desire to combine beauty and precision.
Today, Mido is part of the Swatch Group and remains true to its philosophy of combining Swiss watchmaking with technical reliability and timeless aesthetics. Whether it's the Ocean Star for adventurers, the Commander as a design classic, or the Baroncelli for lovers of classic elegance, Mido stands for quality without exaggeration. The brand has found its place between tradition and modernity and proves that consistency never goes out of style.
